How to Care for Your Rose Sympathy Plant

Everyday Care

Give your rose water every 4-5 days, and more when it's hot outside. Roses love full sunshine. You can trim your rose bush in early to mid-spring when new growth starts to appear.

Planting Your Rose

Dig a hole big enough for all the roots. Roses grow best in rich soil that drains well. Adding some compost helps your rose grow strong. Place your rose in the hole and gently loosen the sides of the root ball. Make sure the top of the roots sits level with the ground. Fill the hole with soil and compost, pat it down firmly, and give it plenty of water.

Winter Protection

Before cold weather arrives, put a thick layer of bark mulch around your rose to keep it warm. On very cold nights, you can also cover your rose with a thin sheet to protect it from frost.

Growing in Pots

When putting a rose in a pot, check if the soil is dry and water it well if needed. Choose a pot that holds at least 3 gallons of soil. Mix in some compost for better results. The best time to move your rose to a new pot is in early spring when it's still dormant.
